I once met a man who asked me, “Do you like the movie Love Actually.” I said I had found it watchable and amusing. He replied, “Good! Then we can be friends.”
This is not my way at all. I can be friends with people who disagree with my tastes, my political opinions, and my moral stances. I once even chatted amiably with a woman who thought The Color Purple was a good novel. Did I hold it against her? Not openly, no.
But I will admit this. There is one set of books I always look for on the shelf of a new acquaintance. If I find them there, I know that, yes, we can be friends.
