One of the sources of our current dissatisfaction is the ever-lengthening list of things you’re not supposed to say. The polite restraint of decency has been weaponized for political purposes until the simple truth about any number of subjects has been deemed unspeakable.
Not long ago, I was pilloried by the pillory people for a perfectly reasonable remark. I was ranting against movie/TV scenes in which women beat up men. They are not just absurd but also dangerous. Women are far weaker and frailer than men. Many of the rules of social life arise from this fact.
“If you're a person like me who loves women and wants to have a wonderful life with a wonderful woman and respect her and never raise a hard hand against her…” I said, “you have to find that woman. You have to find a woman who doesn't need to be smacked around in order to behave in a civilized way.”
Obvious, right? If you want to behave like a gentleman, you have to find yourself a lady. If you’re in a relationship with a woman who abuses you because she knows you won’t pop her, you have to ditch her to preserve your principles.
It's no good pretending to be shocked at this, as if no such women exist. Anyone who believes that has simply never been president of France.
