I have not commented for quite some time. Usually, because my intellect is always trying to play catch up, and after watching Andrew's (we're not quite buddies yet for me to call him Drew - and if you live in the South you learn that such familiarities are granted not assumed) interview with Spencer, it dawned on me I may never catch up. Despite the despair that created, for some reason the neurons twitched in such a way this morning that I felt compelled to simply say how grateful I am to be able to "listen" in on this conversation.
"In fact the point of my own book is that everything—not just America, but the world—needs God as a first principle to make any sense at all. I think this is starting to dawn on people even as the death of the old order fills our ears with ugly noise. When the princes are finished raging against God and his anointed, we can get on with what comes next."
So true, but sadly a viewpoint that many of our self-anointed betters will pooh-pooh at the mere mention of such an idea. I am in a Bible study now, going through the book of Romans. This week's lesson is chapter 5, and the section titles are so true: verses 5-11, 'Faith Brings Joy'; verses 12-21, 'Adam and Christ Contrasted'. There was a question in the lesson about whether the world's notion that man's character is innately good is true and asked us to cite a verse to explain our answer. Verse 5:13 hit me. It says 'Yes people sinned even before the law was given. But it was not counted as sin yet because there was not yet any law to break.' So, it would seem that man's character is not innately good, and he will do what he wishes, without regard to his fellow man. The point of the Law, then, it would seem, would be for God to step in and say 'NO! That is not the way to live! There is a better way, and here it is.'
I just finished reading a rather lengthy article in The Atlantic titled 'Shoplifters Gone Wild'. Just another part of life in this nation that causes distress, loss and fear, and yet we are expected to just shrug and say, 'this doesn't hurt anyone; let it be'. Another example of defining deviancy downward. As your article state, we can't stay in decline forever.
Doggone it, Spencer, now you've made me want to read your book! I guess I will be ordering it today.🙄
Can't wait to read both of your new releases, and looking forward to hearing your dad talk to you about your new book tonight.

Wow. There is something about the letter this morning that just fills me with hope.

Please don't lump in the Brits with Europe. That's not fair.
This letter needs to be read aloud at a rally. Amen!
