Can I ask, those of you who are so inclined, to pray for my friend's brother, Charlie, who has brain cancer? He is 32 and has two small children. He's ex British Army and most importantly a Dad and Husband. It doesn't seem right, so I'm sure enough of our prayers will bring him around and get him back on his feet again. Thank you everyone.
That's amazingly coincidental! I've followed Andrew Wommack Ministries and supported them for decades. His healing journey testimonies are amazing and most encouraging. I shall continue praying. God bless.
Emerson and the Romantics believed firmly that human beings were essentially good. That's hard to prove by any standard, but in the context of the individual spirit, it does make sense. How can it not be good to "follow your heart?" Well, as it turns out, the heart and the accompanying emotions are deceivers--and if you lead by your emotions, all will come to ruin. Practicality must, at some point, take hold. A flipping of the standards sounds like a good place to start.
There has been an unleashing of third graders and very few parents in our culture-this essay is a wonderful insight. I do believe the Church is to be a witness of God’s love through Christ. Gathering us in to be part of the order and Truth may be the most important thing we can restart now.
After reading your father's (no relation) essay, we hosted our weekly Bible study over 1 Cor 8 [NIV].
"(1) Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that "We possess all knowledge." But knowledge puffs up while love builds up. (2) Those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know. (3) But whoever loves God is known by God.
As your father often says "Love transforms everything." and if we let it, I think it would transform our hearts to the point we couldn't recognize ourselves, and isn't THAT scary.
These are the rules (beginning with the Ten Commandments) + judge not, lest ye yourself be judged. Isn’t that the whole package? Try to live this out in your individual soul and let the other individual souls do their own work on themselves.
“Modernity has loosened up our social rules but constrained the range of possible thought for the individual.” This really does seem to hit the nail on the head. And what a prescription for craziness! My mind immediately began picturing images from X/Twitter which seems to be a constant stream of examples of this modernity playing out.

Happy to put Charlie on my prayer list! Have him check out awmi.net for some encouragement! God bless.
Well that’s a good sign. I just checked your link and the bible college is called Charis, which is the name of my friend’s wife!

Thanks. Will do.

Thus is true

But where am I gonna get my easy sense of self righteous confidence and indignation if I can't privately judge everyone around me. ;)
That’s what all of us need to work on. ☺️

🤔
Great food for thought. I'll admit I had never thought of the tension between the two extremes in this way.
