It is interesting that hope, especially the hope that Christianity brings is more life sustaining than all the chemicals that comprise the biology of life. We were created whole with God but even Adam decided to try less hope in favor of his wife's new fd diet. Ever since then, we have been striving to return to that wholeness with our Creator. As we fail, we continue to blame the notion that it ever existed instead of leaning into it more.
It is sad what is happening to the west. We leave the wholeness we had at the beginning and drift further into vapid materialism and obscure philosophies that we spin from whole cloth in order that we might forget the hope that God left us with after our bad choices. It is good that you continue to remind us that hope is real. God is with us and we will live.
"To disbelieve in God is, ultimately, to disbelieve in the human experience. To think there is no spiritual realm is to think all our experiences have their source in the material."
But...But I Don't Want There To Be A God! This God Might Want Me To Do Things Don't Want! I'm in Charge Of Me!!!
When you cut though all the mumbo jumbo That's pretty much what Materialists are saying.
Its say 1875. Based on what was known through science, you could make a good argument for Materialism. The problem is its 2025 now. As we have learned more and more about The Universe and how it works, I REALLY don't see how someone can say All This (The Universe) Just happened by accident/random chance.
13.8 billion yeas ago there was NO THING. Then there was something, and something expanded into Everything. That just doesn't make sense to me.
As a man who has been part of the organized mainline church since birth, I read your opening words here with trepidation. Since college, I've been a member of the Lutheran Church, the ELCA specifically. But the path that church has taken leaves me cold enough to wear a parka. Politics heads the agenda, political posturing is as important now as the liturgy and since that's so, my wife and I have stopped attending. The cold we feel in the absence of the rituals we've so come to cherish and love is still somewhat better than being reminded each week that the land our church sits on used to belong to a tribe from whom we "stole" it. My answer has always been, "you're the church...give it back." They don't listen to that, and it makes me unpopular. I haven't given up the faith. But the faith seems to be taking on a different character here in this corporeal form.
Mr. Storer, depending on the parish priest, obviously, a Catholic service may be more to you liking. The Catholic Church was a target of the last administration even though the president claimed to be a Catholic. And the current pope may be a step in the right direction.
Thank you, Mr. Haberberger. I appreciate your note. It is not an unfamiliar thought to me and I've been to a few Catholic masses. Now, I just need to get my wife to go to one. But I suppose it's possible at this point.
Getting back to Accountant 2, I think the lead character was clearly out of his depth, which is where the amusement comes from. However, the question the poor woman asks would be answered with an enthusiastic YES by someone who just wants to get something from her. The character’s answer is flawed, but sounds like an entire branch of thought, in that we are all meat sacks, and have no free will, just what our neurotransmitters allow us to do. When the organism goes down, there is nothing more. This is very common if not universal in athiests, who have stronger faith than believers, by far (athiests never seem to doubt that there is no God, whereas almost every believer has doubted at some point or other). Speed dating is not a good place to begin a philosophical discussion, but I would say, if pushed to it, that there is attraction at first sight, arousal at first sight, curiosity at first sight, but not “love”. Here, English has failed us. Eros, check. Agape, we hope. Philia, we hope, but that may have to wait until we learn who the other is. A silly question, or a very vague one, but perfect for the silly and vague “speed dating” gambit. We all know watching the movie that this will fail, and I was heartened when they went to the western bar, where his peculiar talents worked in his favor. I actually cheered when they were driving away. I’ll leave it vague to not spoil the surprise for those who have not watched the movie.
If you like action movies, as I do, the first Accountant is original and entertaining. The second one is not as good, but still entertaining with some very good scenes.

I'm stealing the thing about Eve's fad diet. I'm just letting you know.
Rock it!

Of I may, Sir, why not explore a breadth of the Christian disciplines and go where you hear the message gain.
I recommend that you try to find an LCMC service-Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ. LCMC.net

Dear Andrew,
Help me out here. Are you recommending Accountant(s) one and two or just the clip?
You recommended, “That Hideous Strength” and I am ever so grateful. I’m on chapter 8, and it’s blowing my mind!
Unfortunately, I made a commitment to finish it before I start, “The Kingdom of Cain!”
I am a sufferably slow reader and have a hard time dedicating time to read amongst my innumerable other daily tasks and projects.
But, with that being said, I think I could squeeze in a movie or two along the way.
I found the clip you posted intriguing.
