"Every age has its intelligentsia, and by the intelligentsia is here meant not the educated, but those who have been educated beyond their intelligence." Fulton Sheen
I think our age is suffering from an over-abundance of intelligentsia. The true intellectuals will look for the truth of things, but the middle managers will look for the "truth" that will let them keep their status of thinking they are better than the most of us.
_The Matter With Things_ is nearly 3,000 pages long, including notes. It has to be. McGilChrist starts at the very beginning, with the need for a being in the world to have different spheres of awareness, one discrete (I need to do this, then this, then this, in that order to pluck that tasty apple from the tree branch) and one indiscreet ("I need to be prepared for any threat coming from anywhere at any time").
According to Kindle, I am only 10% of the way into _The Matter With Things_ and already I am compelled to see what we call reality with new eyes.
Over a half-century ago (yikes!) my wife and I were in college. She actually wrote to Merriam-Webster-Webster to get a definition of an acronym she had heard, GIGO. Sounds like large language models are suffering from GIGO in spades! Either the coders are encoding their beliefs into the AI, or in perusing the internet, picking up this garbage, and out it goes. GIGO, BTW, is Garbage In, Garbage Out, for any who did not know (I assume everyone but my wife is familiar with it now, and probably then also—however, she reads Jane Austin as if it were Talmud and is quite brilliant in literary fields). Once again, Star Trek comes through with at least 2 references, Nomad and M5.
A few years ago I read a book that I found absolutely riveting, although I ended up cross-eyed a few times. The book, The Case Against Reality: How Evolution Hid The Truth from our Eyes is by Donald Hoffman, also a psychologist with excellent credentials. He makes it clear that he is not a religious guy, but I couldn’t read his book without being hit by a Mack truck that has “God Delivers” printed in bright red capital letters on the side. I can’t wait to see your interview on Daily Wire+ (note the plug 😂). Seriously, I love this stuff and I do think you’re right. Many brilliant people are going to come to the realization that their assumptions did not equal reality. Let the party begin!

True. The intelligentsia used to become monks, so at least they were useful for copying manuscripts.
Always with the humor, Klavan. God bless you for helping us retain a sense of humor if not our insanity.
😂😂😂

Lol, thanks
