“No, everyone sees they’ve done a terrible thing, so they blame the Jews.” - How perfect is this... When trying to understand the evil that is happening in our country, how so many people do no see what the Left is doing (because they are the Left), it is so simple. As Andrew says, it's not the Jews, it is God they hate. And for those of us who follow Christ, this is so obvious. Now we can be strong, knowing God is on our side and we must trust Him, fight for Him - no matter what.

And probably we are going to have to suffer for Him too.

Unique, thought-provoking and even FUNNY. I love it, Monsieur, Klavan. I felt I was riding in the elevator as a fly on the wall and listening to these scenarios. Great stuff.

lol. Gotta love Klavan’s wit and his ability to communicate truth through humor

I’ve always wanted to tell Andrew that one of my favorite books of his must have started out as the perfect elevator pitch: Werewolf Cop!

“O ye Gentiles, have ye remembered the Jews, mine ancient covenant people? Nay; but ye have cursed them and hated them, and have not sought to recover them. But behold, I will return all these things upon your own heads; for I the Lord have not forgotten my people. O fools, they shall have a Bible ; and it shall proceed forth from the Jews, mine ancient covenant people. And what thank they the Jews for the Bible which they receive from them? Do they remember the travails, and the labors, and the pains of the Jews, and their diligence unto me, in bringing forth salvation unto the Gentiles?” 2Nephi 29: 4,5 Thus saith the Lord. Receive all His word. Amen.

I would try this: why did everyone in The Idiot hate Myshkin, Dostoevsky’s “positively good man” whose name means “Mr. Mouse,” so much?

I just started reading The Idiot!

When will people recognize the larger pattern of Islamic violence has been perpetrated on nearly every continent and against every culture for a thousand years? It is not the Jews. It is Islam.

I'm pretty sure current Islam (though I don't think it necessarily started out this way) doesn't have a concept of objective truth. If I understand correctly, Allah can desire two diametrically opposed things at once. The Koran can tell you one thing, but an Imam can give a dispensation for some "immediate good." Watching interviews with captured Hamas POWs was enlightening and I actually felt some pity for them, even though they did monstrous things. The pity I felt was because without the noisy adulation of a crowd, some of them could see clearly what they had done and now they had to live with those sights, sounds, and smells. One guy could hardly sit still and not grimace at the memories he recounted. I couldn't imagine having that kind of horror on my conscience with no way to relieve it!

There is a way to relieve it.

I genuinely don’t know enough about Islam. But Islamic countries tend to be “shit holes”, to quote DJT and Christian countries, especially those freed from Rome, tend to have done quite well for themselves.

It is Islam, but it’s not just Islam.

“When the Inquisitor fell silent, he waited some time for his prisoner to reply. His silence weighed on him. He had seen how the captive listened to him all the while intently and calmly, looking him straight in the eye, and apparently not wishing to contradict anything. The old man would have liked him to say something, even something bitter, terrible. But suddenly he approaches the old man in silence and gently kisses him on the bloodless, ninety-year-old lips. That is the whole answer. The old man shudders. Something stirs at the corners of his mouth; he walks to the door, opens it, and says to him: ‘Go and do not come again… do not come at all… never, never!’ And he lets him out into the ‘dark squares of the city.’ The prisoner goes away.”

I love the individual work of both Klavans. I love even more the combined work in this letter-exchange format. If I'm honest though, I generally tend to enjoy Spencer's letters (slightly) more from a content perspective, maybe owing to the fact that he's a professional philosopher (whereas Gandalf is a professional artist). In any case, this letter came out of nowhere as my absolute favorite letter in the series to-date! Since my opinion is lofty and can be cashed at the bank for actual dollars, congrats to elder Klavan on his newfound wealth
